Week 4: Assure Model

Dear Blog

 Hey!

It's your girl Negs  with yet another reflection from  EDET class with my tutor Mrs.Roberts.

This week we focused on the Assure Model Lesson Plan and this lesson plan is basically used for writing technology lesson planning and it can also be used for other lesson plans. It is also a bit different from the other types of lesson plans because it caters to different learners Here is a template of the Assure Model Lesson Plan.

                 What was the task?

The task was to research what each letter in the word Assure represents

 A -  Analyze

 S - State Objectives
S - State or Select appropriate media methods or materials
 U -Utilize media and materials
 R - Require learner Participation
 E- Evaluate

Our focus was then onto Learning Outcomes and learning outcomes    are what you expect students to be able do at the end of any learning or teaching session (whether it is at the end of the lesson or class or the topic) Learning outcomes can be General or specific. we also focus on the media and we agree that the media is what or how we convey the lesson.
We also discussed in our class session the three  examples of teaching methods. These include ;

1. Dictation - (a direct method – from teacher to       students) and the learner  note takes.

2 .  Discussion - the students are able to express themselves in the classroom.

      3. Integration of Technology    - The use of         technology such as the use of videos etc to enhance the learning.

·         The traditional lesson plan structure - Gagne’s 9 -Steps of Instruction – where the lesson begins via an Introduction (can be in any way that you think is appropriate for your learners)
·     At the end of the lesson, The teacher would a  evaluation and the student evaluation  - this is how you would know if your students have learnt the concept. This can be done via several methods/instruments (e.g. checklists, Rubric)

Were there anything new learnt, as a result of teaching and learning experience? If yes what was it, and explained how you benefited from it.

Yes i did learnt something new, Im being honest here I learnt about Blooms Taxonomy and the use of it  in writing lesson plans.

One the left is the older version and on the right we have the update version. In the old version they were written as nouns and in the revised version they are now written as verbs.

We had a lengthy discussion in class and then we basically wrapped it up for the day. I have to continue my research on Blooms Taxonomy.

Bye for now :-)
